Good morning kids.
Stumbling out of bed this morning, fighting whatever infection I have in my tummy…I was greeted by the scratchy voice of Pink and her video on VH1.
The song, “Dear Mr. President,” questions the leadership of this country and the decisions made by the White House.
It’s a ballad with potential.
But, Pink?
I just don’t get it. And I’m not convinced.
As a veteran I appreciate the images of soldiers and the sacrifices of war. But since when is Pink, Mizz Embassador of Good Will?
“How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?” the song says.
I had no idea Pink was sitting in her Beverly Hills home wiping her tears with her $200 Alexander McQueen scarf.
The song would’ve been much more powerful had Sarah Mclachlan done it or perhaps even Sheryl Crow.
But that’s just me.
IN OTHER NOT SO TACKY NEWS….
America’s favorite shockrocker announced he and former bassist Twiggy Ramirez (A Perfect Circle, Queens of the Stone Age)have reunited, Universal Music said in a statement.
Ramirez, real name Jeordie White, will join Marilyn Manson onstage for the U.S. leg of the Rape of the World Tour.
The tour kicks off Jan. 19 in Orlando, FL and wraps in Houston in March.
Texas dates include Feb. 29, Dallas; Mar. 1, Austin and Mar. 2 in Houston.
Joining Manson and Ramirez will be Chris Vrenna, Rob Holliday and Ginger Fish. Tim Skold has amicably split with Manson, but future collaborations aren’t being ruled out between the two, the label said.
Ramirez originally split from Manson in 2002 citing creative differences. He went on to audition for Queens of the Stone Age, which he lost to Troy Van Leeuwen of A Perfect Circle. Several months later the bassist joined A Perfect Circle.
I really have to admit I didn’t see this one coming. It should be quite a show for the Manson fans out there…and I know they still exist.
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST…
Nothings guaranteed in the world of the American Idols. Whether you won the competition or lost by a hair, it’s all a mystery once the Idol stage goes dark.
Only a few Idols have withstood the test of time and crumbling record labels …And I can count them on two fingers…Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry.
My dear Kelly Clarkson (whom I adore) proved that putting her own stamp on the music wasn’t such a great idea. Her numbers dropped and Mr. Clive Davis, reportedly, is still in a tussy.
MTV.com reported:
Within the last three weeks, Sony BMG has reportedly severed ties with three former “Idol” contestants - the most recent being season-five runner-up Katharine McPhee, whose sole eponymous effort for the label, which dropped in late 2006, has sold only 365,500-plus copies since its release.
Just last week, season-five victor Taylor Hicks was dumped by J Records, in what was described as a “mutual” split. Hicks wrote on his MySpace page that “artistic freedom and control [was] an exciting prospect” for him, and that he’s begun writing tracks for his next release, which, according to The Associated Press, he’ll be recording independent of any label. Hicks’ self-titled debut has scanned nearly 700,000 copies since first it hit stores in 2006; it was the first album from an “Idol” winner that failed to reach the 1 million sold mark.
Late last year, “American Idol” season-two champ Ruben Studdard was also chopped from the J Records roster, following a poor showing for his 2006 LP, The Return, which, to date, has sold 236,000 units.
Things are pretty iffy in the industry. Record labels are almost obsoleteand musicians are seeking alternative routes to be discovered.
MySpace anyone?
Stay tuned…
